Late night (variously Funky):

* Pieces Pizza (pesto. PESTO.  Once slice will do it.  Fine! Maybe the meaty one too.)
* Petra Greek (quick, nice, very good, and casual.  Heaviest door in town)
* Thai Canteen (The panang is amaz..ang?)
* El Forrestero, a mom & pop taqueria (ok, its 3:00 am, there can't be any good food open, right?  Wrong. A bit of a drive from city center)

Milestone restraunt (el dorado hills)
Sactown union brew

Oscar Mexican (Multi Location)
  • Best American Eats: Moxie
  • Best Upscale Mexican: Mayahuel
  • Best BBQ: Tank House (go ahead, try and find better fatty brisket)
  • Best Thai: Tasty Thai or Rak Thai
  • Best Middle Eastern Restaurant: Kasbah Lounge
  • Best Middle Eastern that's not a Restaurant: International Market
  • Best Sushi that is NOT Mikuni: Kru (obviously)
  • Best NY Pizza: Uncle Vito's
  • Best Chicago Pizza: Zelda's
  • Best burgers and exotic meats: Flamin Grill
  • Best southern food: South (sorry Sandra Dees)
  • Best Brunch: Bacon & Butter

Localis [$$$$], Moxie [$$$], Momo's Meat Market [$$], Magpie[$$$], Mulvaney's[$$$$], Blue House Korean BBQ [$$], Kru [$$$], and Chef's Table [$$$] (technically Roseville/Rocklin).
Honorable mentions to La Huaca [$$] / Ninja Sushi (owner is the nicest dude ever, used to work for Mikuni) (also Roseville) and Broderick [$$].
If you want good but cheap, Taqueria Rincon Alteno (there is a burrito here with its own gravitational pull), Tacos La Piedad (try the chicken).
For dessert, Freeport Bakery, Rick's Dessert Diner, and Gunther's Ice Cream.

A few places
1:Bonchon: Their Wings and Fried Rice are awesome
2:Shoki's: For Ramen
3:Fuji's Sushi Buffet: For all-you-can-eat
4: Akebono (near Oto's Marketplace): For Sushi
5: Bonmua: For Pho, I especially love their savory soup that comes with Pho.
6: Thai Spice(on Broadway): My family goes there often for it.
7: Chando's: Their Burritos, I would go there every so often when I went to CSUS. What makes it worse is that, during a sunny day, they would be barbequeing their meat outside <,<.... so if you roll your windows down, or are nearby, you get to get a whiff of their grill.
8: Quan Nem Ninh Hoa: Their spring roll wraps + their special dip (especially if you add chili peppers)..... om nom nom!
9: Paesanos: When it comes to Italian. It has 3 locations... Davis Midtown, and Elk Grove. Pasta is something I like... and when you can make a pasta dish I like, I'll gobble it up and not want to share. Their Spicy Creole Pasta is awesome (very savory.)
I wished I could give you more, I really like kabob style food faire and have been trying to get some good Mediterranean/Turkish/Middle Eastern type food. Either I am not finding them by accident, or the area that I live in just don't have too many of them.

  • Tori's Place - Hands down the best soul food in Sacramento. Their gumbo has a nice kick, their salt water cornbread is awesome, and their smothered pork chops are so good you'll ignore the creeping numbness in your left arm. This place is located in a somewhat ghetto part of Sac and service is really slow, so call in your order and pick it up to go.
  • Cielito Lindo - high'ish end Mexican dining with delicious moles and a variety of food options. Located across the street from La Trattoria, so if one place is busy you can't go wrong with dining at the other... Or waiting for both while knocking back some beers at Bonn Lair.
  • La Esperanza Mexican Food Products - not really a restaurant, but a great place to pick up terrific food for super cheap. Grab a pound of their delicious and juicy chicharrones, along with tubs of rice/beans/salsa/tortillas, and feast at home.
